Pyromancer Dusk Mage Flaming Destroyer Build (Torchlight 3 Early Access)

This build is a complete lvl 60 setup and is UP-TO-DATE with the new relic subclass rework. The subclass used is Flaming Destroyer. I consider the build as not underpowered but also NOT META. It can dish out nice damage when we are in Harmonic Form & our energy is full. A good source of damage of this build are procs such as Firestorm + Magma Burst + Falling Swords (from Tier 1 Summoning Smash) + Wideload’s Cavebreaker for stalactites and in order to get many procs we try to maximize the hits per second via various skills. The build also gets an amazing DMG boost from the Celestial Gauntlets while Harmonic Form is active.  Add to this the combination of 25% Damage Buff & +10% Evasion from Cloak of Flames along its DPS & burning + Shadow Step (for mobility and an escape mechanic) + our spammy DPS skill – Holy Bolt for damage & procing stuff + Entropy that is very good at procing stuff and twice as good with the Molten Reach in the legendarium (or equipped). And if this was not enough, we have Nimble Flames which has a bit of DPS and a nice self-synergy (it gives 20% Evasion and could caps the evasion at 40% Evasion with the Tier 1 bonus which I didn’t go for this time + while it’s active it casts more Fire Novas when we Evade). Add to this the extra nice DPS from Summoning Smash and we get so many sources of dmg or chances to proc stuff. Skittering Shoulders (even without a set bonus) is a great source of survivability so it could be equipped instead of the Arc-Powered shoulders if you would rater get more dmg reduction and you’re not wearing the Celestial Shoulders either.

Keep in mind that every relic had an amazing passive that gave it +5% of the corresponding elemental damage per level (total of 25%). This passive was AMAZING but the +25% dmg has now been removed. The silver lining here is that every build looses DPS, but we no longer need to use flat dmg affixes matching the relic element so it’s a bit easier to gear up builds now.

The skills I use:

  • Entropy – an amazing source of damage and even better when using the Molten Reach in Legendarium. It’s also a quick Dark Buff bar builder. Alternative setup could be replacing it for Energy Spike + an Ebon Grasp in the Legendarium.
  • Holy Bolt – our spammy dps skill used for dmg & to build the Light Buff bar and to proc things
  • Dark Spears – it slows enemies & also helps with getting the Dark Buff Bar buff.
  • Light Spear – an extra decent dps that could help with the Light Buff bar and be a nice rotation filler because it costs no mana.
  • Shadow Step – our escape mechanic and a movement skill. It also gives a nice passive mana regen at Tier 2 and procs the Celestial BootsMana-Infused buff.
  • Blazing Pillar – decent extra DPS via 1 Blazing Pillar (or 2 Pillars with the Tier 3 bonus) that seeks out enemies for 8 seconds.
  • Nimble Flames – gives +20% evasion (+ another 20% with the Tier 1 bonus which I didn’t use this time). It also does 3 Fire Novas on cast + additional Fire Novas when you evade. It lasts for 6 seconds by default. This one’s on a cooldown and does not cost Energy. It’s a great 1 pointer or even 3 pointer if you lack Evasion from gear.
  • Cloak of Flames – It’s a great bit of Extra DPS to nearby enemies as well as a +25% dmg buff + another 10% Evasion to us and nearby allies.
  • Summoning Smash – Our BIG relic skill that we can active after spending a total of 200 energy with other skills like Blazing Pillar. It’s good to save and use this on champions & bosses.

The gear I recommend using is:

MY IDEAL EQUIPPED GEAR:

  • A good rolled + socketed 1-handed blue weapon + a good rolled & socketed blue Shield or Focus. (You could wear Wideload’s Cavebreaker, Molten Reach, or Arc of Light if no better DPS Blue 1-handed is available)
  • OR a 2-handed setup with a well rolled socketed blue 2-handed weapon.
  • Must wear at least 3 Celestial pieces! I suggest wearing: Celestial Mask + Gauntlets + Boots. If you want %elemental dmg on blue boots, get the Celestial Pauldrons and slot the Boots (replacing the Cavebreaker or Molten Reach) + optionally wear the Cuirass [if not slotting it in the Legendarium]:
    • Celestial Gauntlets – with a 3 piece set bonus you get 100% dmg for the price of 50% increased mana cost while in Harmonic Form. Without the 3 piece set bonus it only gives 50% dmg + 25% mana cost increase while in Harmonic Form.
    • Celestial Boots – Cast a Cooldown Skill: gain Mana Infused for 3 sec. Mana Infused  gives 5% mana regen per sec. or 10% with the set bonus and stacks up to 2 times.
    • Celestial Mask gives +1 Dark Skills (+2 with the 3 piece set bonus) [I’ve tested it and it won’t give you extra levels if the skill is already lvl 10 so go for lvl 9 if you have +1 or 8 if you have +2 to those skills]
    • Celestial Shoulders – summons 2 (4 with set bonus) netherlings when using Summoning Smash
    • Celestial Cuirass (Chest) – gives +1 Light Skills (+2 with the 3 piece set bonus) [I’ve tested it and it won’t give you extra levels if the skill is already lvl 10 so go for lvl 9 if you have +1 or 8 if you have +2 to those skills]
  • Arc-Powered Shoulders (it’s the best in slot with this build for me. I’d rather not use the Celestial ones) – Cast Summoning Smash: become Charged Up for 15 sec., gaining 30% Movement Speed and dealing 100% Weapon Damage to nearby enemies on hit

If you ‘slot in’ the Celestial Cuirass, you can get a good stat boost from a well-rolled + socketed Blue Chest.

You’ll be looking for flat dmg, optionally % elemental dmg and/or Crit dmg/chance, +%Evasion +%Block Chance, +%Chance to Burn, +Additional bolt(s) fired on shock (interesting synergy), +% Dark/Light Skills dmg, +% Holy Bolt/Entropy DMG, -% Holy Bolt Mana Cost + others.

  • Blue Legs  and Chest rolled for flat dmg + % elemental dmg or Crit dmg with a socket
  • Optionally: Blue Boots rolled for % dmg (if stacking the same element across your gear) and/or %Crit dmg with socket. [IF not wearing the Celestial Boots]

Blue Gear only gets 1 socket now.

Suggested Legendarium Powers (to fill in the gaps from items you’re wearing):

MY IDEAL LEGENDARIUM COMBO:

  • Celestial Cuirass (Chest)
  • Molten Reach (digitus) – Entropy gets 8 sec cooldown and also gains twice as many projectiles. VERY GOOD SOURCE OF DPS & PROCS for this build!
  • Wideload’s Cavebreaker – On Hit: 10% chance to drop stalactites, dealing 30% weapon damage in an area

Based on availability & your preference there are alternatives:

  • Option 1: Arc of Light -cast Holy Bolt : 50% chance to also cast Absolver (the Absolver benefits from the dmg boost if you level up Absolver but not from the Tier 1 & 3 bonuses)
  • Option 2: Arc-Powered Shoulders (if not equipped)
  • Option 3: Celestial Pants
    Or anything else you like (i.e. Skittering Shoulders if you need survivability)

The recommended stats to look for in your items are (the list is not in order of priority and is just listing good bonuses + there’s new stats and I might have missed some which will get added later):

  • + Flat Damage (any)
  • +% elemental dmg (any) – starts getting very good later on when you have a nice flat to boost with this if you match the flat with the %
  • +% Damage to Dark/Light skills
  • +% Damage with Holy Bolt or Entropy
  • -% Holy Bolt Mana Cost – this can be very nice and allow us to remove Tier 2 Shadow Step to save 3 points.
  • +% Damage to Blazing Pillar, Cloak of Flames, Summoning Smash (I’d focus on only one of those if going for relic dmg stacking)
  • + Health
  • + Defense (the non elemental is good for any act but lesser numbers than elemental)
  • +% Critical Hit Chance (the cap is 40% but some skills will be able to get it past the cap)
  • +% Critical Damage (the cap is 300%)
  • +% Gear Luck (eventually try to get like 50-75% total for good drop quantity – the cap is 100%)
  • +% Energy Recharge Rate
  • -% Relic Energy cost
  • +% Block Chance (capped at 40%)
  • +% Chance to Evade damage (capped at 40%)
  • +% Mana Regeneration
  • +% Chance to Chill – a decent CC proc
  • +% Chance to Poison is a decent DoT and stacks with other DoTs
  • +% Chance to Bleed and/or Burn to stack the poison with the other DoTs. Burn is very good for this build as it could allow us to remove the points spent into Ignition source.
  • +% Chance to Shock – a decent proc and also could be nice for this build
  • +% Additional Bolts Fired on Shock – a decent proc and also could be nice for this build
  • +% Chance to Stun/Slow/Blindgood but not a very important choice tho as we can slow with Dark Spears.

The Skills and Passives I recommend are:

IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that my setup is WITH the +2 Dark & +2  Light skill levels from the  Celestial Set Mask + Cuirass ! On top of that I did NOT have extra +1 Skill Point from my Hat/Helmet.

REGULAR VERSION (Complete version of the one used in the video):

LESS MANA REGEN, MORE BURN CHANCE & ENERGY REGEN:
