Ancestral Baneductor Railmaster Bane Build (Torchlight 3 Early Access)

Ancestral Baneductor

This build is a complete lvl 60 setup and is UP-TO-DATE with the new relic subclass rework. The subclass used is Bane. THIS BUILD IS NOT MEANT TO BE META!!! For meta there’s another Bane-Train build that focus on dmg from the train instead of the other summons (I’ve not made a guide for this yet). It’s a build that can dish out some serious damage when our energy is full, especially when we’ve got all sorts of summons spawned (Spiders/Spiderlings, Ancestral Spirits, Skeletons, Enchanted Railhammers). Via the combination of Spectral Spider + Arachnid Assault Miasma + all of our other summons. If we lead with a combo of slowing (via rolls on a weapon or a shield) + a Blasting Charge to apply vulnerability that increases the damage we do to the slowed + vulnerable enemies by a total of +95% dmg. On top of this I’ve included Flying Picks to help summon extra ranged Ancestral Spirits with a high amount of hits per second. Ghost Train + a Phantom Buffer shield (in the legendarium) also summons an Ancestral Spirit (but a melee one). For a nice skeleton army under our command, we can use the Boneblocker + Bonerazor combo (equipping the shield and slotting the sword). We also stack Minion damage from the Puppet Master Relic Passive & the Miasma Relic Active skill: up to +25% minion dmg from the passive and +100% minion damage while Miasma Tier 3 is active. Skittering Shoulders (even without a set bonus) is a great source of survivability so it could also be slotted in the legendarium but I think Hammer Spin Tier 3 has this covered for us.

September 17th EDIT: I’ve updated the skill points allocation screenshots to include the extra 10 points (total of 70) that the new update added.

The skills I use:

  • Flying Picks – a decent DPS source + the Tier 3 lets us  summon a total of 2 Ancestral Spirits when at full Endurance. It seems to be capped at 4 of those spirits at once max.
  • Ghost Train – not bad for extra DPS and knockbacks + with a Phantom Buffer shield (in the legendarium) also summons an Ancestral Spirit (but a melee one).
  • Hammer Spin – our escape mechanic and a movement skill. We also get 50% movement speed on Tier 1 for 6 sec. & on Tier 3 we get 50% dmg reduction buff for 6 sec after using it.
  • Flamethrower Car – decent dmg + burns and gets bonuses from +%minion dmg modifiers.
  • Build Train – well ,we can’t have a Flamethrower Car without the basic train car. Also gets bonuses from +%minion dmg modifiers.
  • Blasting Charge – applies Vulnerability to the enemies to make them take more damage. Also does okay damage, especially when you have a Blast Breaker in the Legendarium so it won’t use up your endurance. The Tier 2 gives us 20% dmg reduction in melee.
  • Spectral Spider – 1 big spider summon that at Tier 1 also spawns 4 Egg-bombs for decent dps. On Tier 2 the spider gets a ranged attack. On Tier 3 it can also summon 6 spiderlings, but I decided to stop at lvl 6 and not get Tier 3.
  • Miasma – decent dmg + an amazing party buff for DMG & defence + summons 6 spiderlings (1 every second, up to 6) + at Tier 3 we get a 100% minion dmg boost
  • Arachnid Assault – Nice dmg + summons a Spider Queen at Tier 1 that also does decent dps

The gear I recommend using is:

MY IDEAL EQUIPPED GEAR:

  • If you don’t want skeletons: A good rolled + socketed 2 handed blue weapon – with Flat DMG base + additional Flat DMG affix(es) + chance to Slow or maybe with +% Crit Dmg
  • OR If you want skeletons: get a good rolled Blue 1 handed weapon + a Boneblocker Shield
with Flat DMG rolls & a socket (on each) + chance to Slow on at least one of them + ideally some with extra Flat DMG or +%crit dmg on the weapon and the chance to slow on the shield/off-hand
  • Must wear 3 Cosmic pieces! I suggest wearing Cosmic Breastplate + Pauldrons + Helmet :
    • Cosmic Breastplate (Chest) gives +1 Slammer Skills (+2 with the 3 piece set bonus) [I’ve tested it and it won’t give you extra levels if the skill is already lvl 10 so go for lvl 9 if you have +1 or 8 if you have +2 to those skills]
    • Cosmic Pauldrons – when you cast Arachnid Assault (default relic skill): spawns an Enchanted Railhammer (a floating railhammer that follows you around and attacks enemies)
    • Cosmic Helm gives +1 Conductor  Skills (+2 with the 3 piece set bonus) [I’ve tested it and it won’t give you extra levels if the skill is already lvl 10 so go for lvl 9 if you have +1 or 8 if you have +2 to those skills]
  • The rest will preferably be good rolled + socketed Blue (rare) items.

On all blue items, you’ll be looking for flat dmg, % Elemental dmg and/or %Crit dmg & %Crit Chance along with other good rolls.

In the case of the Helmet, If you want to get 1 more skill point to work with, try getting one that gives + 1 Skill Level to any skill that you have spent more than 1 point into.

Blue Gear only gets 1 socket now.

Suggested Legendarium Powers (to fill in the gaps from items you’re wearing):

MY IDEAL LEGENDARIUM COMBO:

  • Stinging Wing (1handed sword) – Flying Picks gains 50% increased initial weapon damage, recharges twice as fast, and applies Poisoned instead of Bleeding.
  • Bonerazor (1handed sword) – can empower Boneblocker while slotted in the legendarium
  • Phantom Buffer (shield) – it lets us summon a melee Ancestral Spirit when casting Ghost Train. only use Ghost Train if you have this item for the legendarium. It’s definitely worth it but if you don’t want to invest 1 point into Ghost Train, there’s options below)

For the 3rd slot there are a few things you might want to consider If not using Ghost Train+Phantom Buffer:

  • Option 1Blast BreakerBlasting Charge always gain its Endurance Bonus and does not spend Endurance
  • Option 2: Doompipe Flamethrower Car & Mortar Car always gain their Endurance bonus
  • Option 3: Skittering Shoulders – (If not wearing them) spawns a +50% dmg reduction zone for 15 sec.

The recommended stats to look for in your items are (the list is not in order of priority and is just listing good bonuses + there’s new stats and I might have missed some which will get added later):

  • + Flat Damage
  • +% elemental dmg – starts getting very good later on when you have a nice flat to boost with this)
  • +% Damage to Slammer skills
  • +% Damage to Conductor skills
  • +% Damage to Spectral Spider/Miasma/Arachnid Assault
  • + Health
  • + Defense (the non elemental is good for any act but lesser numbers than elemental)
  • +% Critical Hit Chance
  • +% Critical Damage (the cap is 300%)
  • +% Gear Luck (eventually try to get like 50-75% total for good drop quantity – the cap is 100%)
  • +% Energy Recharge Rate
  • -% Relic Energy cost
  • +% Relic Active Skill Damage
  • +% Block Chance
  • +% Chance to Evade damage
  • +% Endurance Regen
  • +% Chance to Chill – a decent CC proc that works well with this build
  • +% Chance to Poison is a decent DoT for this build and stacks with other DoTs
  • +% Chance to Bleed and/or Burn to stack the poison with the other DoTs could be good.
  • + % Chance to Stun/Slow/Blind is very good for this build. I suggest to get it rolled on a shield or on a focus off-hand.

The Skills and Passives I recommend are:

IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that my setup + all other alternative examples are WITH the
+2 Slammer & +2 Conductor skill lvls form the Cosmic Breastplate & Helm + an extra +1 level to a random skill that we use (in my case +1 to Miasma lvl)!

Without that +1 extra skill level bonus (that can roll as an affix on a helmet), we won’t be able to get the same results and will have to remove 1 point from a skill of choice (I suggest removing 1 point from Puppet Master).
The last setup (at the very bottom) does have a spare point so for that one you won’t need an extra point.

September 17th EDIT: I’ve updated the skill points allocation screenshots to include the extra 10 points (total of 70) that the new update added. The numbers in YELLOW represent the suggested skill levels after the new update. In some cases you may need to remove points from one skill to get another one leveled.

REGULAR VERSION (used in the video):
