Venomous Dusk Mage + Bane Build

Venomous

(overwhelm them with Spider Projectiles & extra Relic Skill procs)

♦ ◊ ♦ ◊ ♦

This build is a complete lvl 60 setup and is UP-TO-DATE with the game post-launch & the Snow & Steam December update. The subclass used is Bane. I believe the build can be amazing when geared and it seems like a meta build. Just like any build, in the right hands, this setup should be able to finish all Fazeer stages. It can dish out massive damage when we are playing it well & our energy is pre-filled. A good source of damage of this build is the combination of having an energy refill for extra spamming of Venomous Maw. I’ve included various sources of DMG as well as some DMG reduction & casting speed. Consecration gives us two sources of DMG: 38% (at lvl 3) for us and any allies inside the circle + another 15% dmg per ally standing in the circle (up to 5 stacks of extra 75% dmg total) which Spirit Well‘s minions help us get (at tier 1 we have 5 summons). The Lil’ General focus can give another 25% DMG + 25% dmg reduction (+ extra 25% casting speed when the set bonus is active). On top of that using Imbue Relic fully refills our Relic energy to allow us spamming Venomous Maw twice as much. Add to this Shadow Step for mobility and an escape mechanic and it’s a well rounded build. The Frostwall Shield + either a North Mace OR a Glacier’s Edge (sword) lowers the cooldowns of item-granted skills such as Imbue Relic by 25% or 50% with the set bonus which further helps spam Venomous Maw more often.

The skills I use:

  • Spirit Well – we use this to get 4 or 5 stacks of 15% bonus dmg per ally inside the Consecration circle. The Tier 1 gives us 1 more summon for a total of 5. But you may wanna use it as lvl 0+1. Removing that 1 point I put in Light Spear (to get lvl 5+2) and putting it in Spirit Well is enough to get Tier 1 without breaking the T2 Light Spear bonus. It also triggers Mana-Infused.
  • Light Spear – This one is a personal favorite as a filler and it also triggers Mana-Infused but you can put anything else here. You could swap it out for any other skill or item-granted skill.
  • Absolver – major source of dps for a cheap energy cost + fast build-up of the Light Buff bar At Tier 1 this costs only 2 energy by default. Combined with some speed (25% from Lil’ General) and mana regen stacking (from Mana-Infused) it becomes amazing DPS.
  • Energy Spike – a good source of dps + a solid Dark Buff bar builder. Some may prefer to use it with Ebon Grasp for more dmg. It also triggers Mana-Infused
  • Shadow Step – our escape mechanic and a movement skill. It also gives a nice passive mana regen at Tier 2 and procs the Celestial BootsMana-Infused buff.
  • Dark Spears – okay AoE dmg + helps build up the Dark Buff bar quick.
  • Imbue Relicfully re-fills our Relic energy. Granted by the Ancient Ember Boots. Can also recharge the cooldown of Arachnid Assault when the set bonus is active if you go for a setup that uses it.
  • Consecration – it’s an amazing source of dps by buffing us & our allies and also buffing us again based on the number of allies inside the circle.
  • Venomous MawA MAJOR source of DPS. This combined with Egg of Mayhem + Imbue Relic is super high burst DPS!

The gear I recommend using is:

MY IDEAL EQUIPPED GEAR:

  • A good rolled + socketed 1 handed weapon from the Arctic Armaments setGlacier’s Edge sword or the North Mace OR Blue weapon + a good rolled & socketed Frostwall Shield
  • Must wear at least 3 Celestial pieces! I suggest wearing: Celestial Helmet + Gauntlets + Cuirass (+ maybe the Pants):
    • Celestial Gauntlets – with a 3 piece set bonus you get 100% dmg for the price of 50% increased mana cost while in Harmonic Form. Without the 3 piece set bonus it only gives 50% dmg + 25% mana cost increase while in Harmonic Form.
    • Celestial Boots Cast a Cooldown Skill: gain Mana Infused for 3 sec. Mana Infused gives 5% mana regen per sec. or 10% with the set bonus and stacks up to 2 times.
    • Celestial Mask gives +1 Dark Skills (+2 with the 3 piece set bonus) [I’ve tested it now gives you extra levels and DMG if the skill is already lvl 10 and you can use this to overcap skills]
    • Celestial Pants – increase the the Harmonic Form DMG buff by +50% (making it give 75% instead of 50% dmg total) and also with the set bonus increase the Harmonic Form Mana Regen buff by 50%
    • Celestial Cuirass (Chest) – gives +1 Light Skills (+2 with the 3 piece set bonus) [I’ve tested it now gives you extra levels and DMG if the skill is already lvl 10 and you can use this to overcap skills]
  • Ideally also wear a mix of 2-3 Ancient Ember, Arc-Powered, or Winterweave pieces! I suggest those be: Pants + Boots + Shoulders:

You’ll be looking for flat dmg, optionally % elemental dmg and/or Crit dmg/chance, +%Evasion +%Block Chance, +% Absolver DMG, AND/OR +% Energy Spike DMG, + X lvl to any skill you use as active and have more than 1 point into, + others.

  • the Shoulders and Chest rolled for +% Crit Dmg
  • the Chest, Shoulders and Pants rolled for +%dmg to the skills mentioned above
  • the Pants + Chest will ideally also roll with + flat dmg
  • the Boots can ideally be rolled for % Crit dmg and maybe elemental dmg
  • Crit Chance rolls on the Helmet and Pants is amazing too

Suggested Legendarium Powers (to fill in the gaps from items you’re wearing):

MY IDEAL LEGENDARIUM COMBO:

  • Egg of Mayhem – is amazing and a must-have IMO.
  • Lil’ General (only recommended when you wear or slot Ancient Ember Boots)
  • Ancient Ember Boots or Celestial Boots wear one and slot the other

Ideally you wear Celestial Cuirass, Helmet + Gauntlets also Frostwall + North Mace OR Glacier’s Edge, alongside Ancient Ember OR Winterweave OR Arc-Powered Boots+Pants+Shoulders OR mix-n-match 3 pieces.

Based on availability & your preference there are alternatives:

  • Option 1: other Celestial, or Winterweave or Ancient Ember, or Arc-Powered set pieces
  • Option 2: Ebon Grasp
  • Option 3: Woodsbeast Sandals – for that crit chance and immunity to some CCs

Or anything else you like (i.e. Skittering Shoulders if you need survivability)

The non-class specific shoulders now give us an active skill to slot in the skillbar which not everyone may like.

The recommended stats to look for in your items are (the list is not in order of priority and is just listing good bonuses + there’s new stats and I might have missed some which will get added later):

  • + Flat Damage (any). The Arctic Armaments set weapons always roll with the major dmg as Ice
  • +% elemental dmg (any) – starts getting very good later on when you have a nice flat to boost with this if you match the flat with the %
  • +% Damage to Light/Dark skills (this seems to no longer exist)
  • +% Damage with Absolver and/or Energy Spike (on shoulders, chest, and pants) and Absolver is top priority
  • + Health
  • + Defense (the non elemental is good for any act but lesser numbers than elemental)
  • +% Critical Hit Chance (the cap is 40% but some skills will be able to get it past the cap)
  • +% Critical Damage (the cap is 300%)
  • +% Gear Luck (eventually try to get like 50-75% total for good drop quantity – the cap is 100%)
  • +% Energy Recharge Rate is pretty good for this build
  • -% Relic Energy cost is pretty good for this build
  • +% Block Chance (capped at 40%)
  • +% Chance to Evade damage (capped at 40%)
  • +% Mana Regen per second
  • +% Chance to Chill – a decent CC proc
  • +% Chance to Poison is a decent DoT and IMO a must have to reasonably proc Spread of Death it also stacks with other DoTs. Try to socket this on a shield/focus.
  • +% Chance to Bleed and/or Burn to stack the poison with the other DoTs.
  • +% Chance to Shock a decent proc
  • +% Additional Bolts Fired on Shock a decent proc booster
  • +% Chance to Stun/Slow/Blindgood but not a very important choice

The Skills and Passives I recommend are:

IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that my setup is WITH the +2 Dark & +2 Light skill levels from the Celestial Set Mask + Cuirass! On top of that I did NOT have extra +1, 2 ,3 Skill Point(s) from my Helmet.

MY IDEAL/RECOMMENDED SETUP (used in the video):

TIER 1 SPIRIT WELL VERSION:

ARACHNID ASSAULT LVL6 VERSION:

TIER 3 CONSECRATION VERSION:

How to LVLUP the Build:

lvl 2 – get Dark Spears lvl 1
lvl 3 – get Spectral Spider lvl 1 (you’ll unspec this later)
lvl 5 – get Tier 1 (lvl 3) Shadow Step
lvls 6, 7 – get Holy Bolt lvl 2, 3
lvls 8, 9 – save the points
lvl 10 – get Light Spear lvl 1 + Energy Spike lvl 1 + unspec the point in Spectral Spider and put it in Venomous Maw to get it to lvl 3
lvls 11,12,13,14 – get Energy Spike lvl 2,3,4,5
lvl 15 – get Energy Spike lvl 6 + lvl 4 Shadow Step
lvls 16, 17, 18, 19 – save, then @ 20 get Absolver lvl 6
lvls 21, 22 – get Shadow Step lvls 5,6
lvls 23 to 25 – get Absolver to lvl 10
lvls 26 to 28 – get Light Spear lvled up to 6
lvls 28 to 30 – get Holy Bolt to lvl 6 + lvl 1 Consecration
lvls 31 to 36 – get Venomous Maw to lvl 10
lvls 37 to 40 – get Energy Spike to lvl 10
lvls 40 to 45 – get Unholy Bolt to lvl 6
next get Spread of Death lvl 5 then Energizer lvl 5. Spread of Death is not as useful without Chance to Poison in items  but at least we apply poison with Venomous Maw. Eventually also get Tier 2 Luminous Run and Tier 2 Damnation. Hopefully, at this point you also have +2 skill bonuses from the Celestial Set so that you can get start removing the extra points from your skills and putting those where needed.
