Scattershot Wingspan
EDIT: After the August 11th 2020 Patch, every build made before the relic sub-class changes will be outdated. This is one such and eventually will be re-worked trying to keep its core/play-style as close as possible to the original. Will post a redirect to the rework when it’s ready.
This build is a complete lvl 60 setup but you only need 53 points to get all suggested active skills and passive synergies the remaining 7 points are flexible and can be spend as one prefers. The current state of Torchlight 3 Early Access would take several hours to get to lvl 60 (maybe 10 to 15 hours based on how much you rush). The build stacks extra damage sources that come from three skills: Loyal Shasta (taunts and then gives us passive +50% dmg vs taunted enemies), Sacrifice to Goose (applies vulnerability making enemies take 25% more dmg or 30% with the Tier 1 bonus), and Reload‘s Tier 2 bonus that gives our Precision skills 30% more dmg all of the time. Together with Ghost Visage (for mobility + an extra 50% crit chance buff) & our two main DPS skills – Scattershot & Targeted Strikes the build can dish out nice amount of damage to enemies that are either lined up for piercing shots (Targeted Strikes‘ mechanic or spread out for multi-shots (Scattershot‘s mechanic). The icing of the cake can be a relic active skill of your preference or Reload (if you don’t want the relic active skill). Good active skills right now are Frost Blast (Coldheart) and Spinning Blade (Blood Drinker) the Sword Smash (Flaming Destroyer) isn’t bad either but i prefer the former 2. If you use the Electrode and it’s active skill you will need to be close to the enemies so I’d recommend to just use electrode without the active skill if that’s your relic of choice. The one must have item is the Wingspan rifle (equipped or in the legendarium).

The skills I use:
- Scattershot – amazing spreadshot/multi-shot dps capabilities. It can also be held down to charge it for more dmg.
- Targeted Strikes – amazing piercing straight line dps
- A Relic Active Skill – If you want a spammy dps active skill go for Frost Blast or Spinning Blade (see the relic setups below). For example, Spinning Blade is a total of 540% dmg (+110% bleed for 6s.) when you have a 20% relic damage passive and the 50% from the relic skills.
- Ghost Visage – our escape mechanic and a movement skill. We also get 50% crit chance for the next 3 uses of Scattershot & Targeted Strikes after using it
- Loyal Shasta – used to taunt enemies and keep them grouped up for our dmg spam also makes taunted enemies take 50% more dmg)
- Sacrifice to Goose – we use it to apply vulnerability, making enemies take 25% more dmg or 30% with the Tier 1 bonus & for the Tier 2 bonus to get -10% cooldown for Scattershot
- rent setups below)
The gear I recommend using is:
- any of the following weapons:
- Wingspan rifle – doubles the cooldown and the damage of Scattershot. NOTE: It seems currently broken and give around 70-75% more total dmg increase instead of pure double (100%). It also quintuples the cooldown making a 1 second be 5 seconds and 0.9 sec. be 4.5 seconds if you use the -10% cooldown passive.
- a good rolled blue/rare two handed weapon (only used as stat stick do no need to be ranged either)
- Maybe the Musketeer set: Musketeer Gauntlets (extra 1-2 summons when using the default Relic Skill). You could combine this with 2 more Musketeer pieces or the bonus. Pick two from the ones below (i suggest Robe + Hat when they are fixed):
- Musketeer Cavalier Hat – gives +1 Precision Skills (+2 with the 3 piece set bonus)) [I’ve tested it and it won’t give you extra levels if the skill is already lvl 10 so go for lvl 9 if you have +1 or 8 if you have +2 to those skills]
- Musketeer Robe – gives +1 Adventurer Skills (+2 with the 3 piece set bonus) [I’ve tested it and it won’t give you extra levels if the skill is already lvl 10 so go for lvl 9 if you have +1 or 8 if you have +2 to those skills]
- Musketeer Pauldrons (allows us to be more spammy with visage – not the best thing but still okay to use if you don’t have other better options and need that 3rd set piece for the gloves’ set bonus)
- Skittering set: Skittering Shoulders (spawns a +50% dmg reduction zone). I only use it without a set bonus but you can combine this with 2 more Skittering pieces. I suggest the two below, but you can pick other 2:
- Skittering Legs (if you will be staying close enough to the enemies a good extra dmg from Spew Acid [poison breath kind of a skill] for 40% wep dmg for 3 sec)
- Skittering Boots (On Kill: 20% chance to spawn a Poisoned Egg that deals 150% weapon Damage)
- I Suggest Blue Legs + Chest that give you flat dmg or a +% dmg bonus that matches your major dmg element (and possibly the enchantments as well)
- other legendary items that boost your skills or allow you to proc good stuff
Suggested Legendarium Powers (to fill in the gaps from items you’re wearing):
- Wingspan rifle – doubles the cooldown and the damage of Scattershot. NOTE: It seems currently broken and give around 70-75% more total dmg increase instead of pure double (100%). It also quintuples the coooldown making a 1 second be 5 seconds and 0.9 sec. be 4.5 seconds if you use the -10% cooldown passive.
- Egg of Wonder (boost our Relic Active Skill to cast another second random Relic Active Skill along with ours that is not ours i.e. any relic active skill that is not the relic active skill you cast from your skill bar can proc)
- Shasta’s Promise (boosts Loyal Shasta to do 100% more dmg and heal us for 10% of our hp when she taunts)
- Skittering Shoulders (spawns a +50% dmg reduction zone)
- Chronometer (works well if you’re going to use Reload – casting any Adventure skill reduces Reload‘s cooldown by 1sec.)
Of course only use either of those if it is not already equipped, ideally, you’ll go for wearing a good rolled blue rifle and use teh Wingspan in the legendarium along with 2 more things. My perfect setup will be to wear a rare rifle and have the Wingspan, Skittering Shoulder, and Egg of Wonder in the Legendarium.
The recommended stats to look for in your items are (the list is not in order of priority and is just listing good bonuses):
- Flat Damage
- +% Poison/Fire/Ice/Electric Damage (starts getting very good later on when you have a nice flat to boost with this)
- +% Damage to Precision skills (it’s a good boost for precision skill spam builds)
- +% Damage to Scattershot
- + Health
- + Defense (the non elemental is good for any act but lesser numbers than elemental)
- -% Relic Active Skill cooldown
- +% Critical Hit Chance
- +% Critical Damage (the cap is 300%)
- +% Gear Luck (eventually try to get like 50-75% total for good drop rates – the cap is 100%)
- -% Relic Skill Cooldown
- +% Ammo Generation
- +% Chance to Poison can help do some more DoT stacking
- +% Chance to Bleed and/or Burn to stack the poison with the other DoTs
- + % Chance to Stun/Slow/Blind – not a bad choice but not high priority (you can get 10% dmg vs slowed, stunned, blinded from tier 2 Rizzi)
The Skills and Passives I recommend are:
- lvl 60 Setup with 53 points spent: https://tinyurl.com/WingspanScattershot
If you are using the Musketeer set or +1 or +2 to Adventurer and/or Precision skills make sure to remove points from a certain skill (i.e. for tier 3 instead of 10 to spend 9 or 8 when having +1 or +2 or instead of 6 for tier 2 to have 5 or 4 points invested in the skill if you have +1 or +2) Also consider wearing other(blue) items that may give +1 to a specific skill as well.
After the recent Echonok Update the Coldheart is pretty nice too. This is how i spend my points:
- first, 10 points into Quicker Frost (or only 5 & the other 5 later after step 2)
- second, 10 points into Sharp Points
- third, 10 points into Frailty (you could do 5 points before step 2 then the rest after it)
- next, 10 points into Cold Snap
- the last 10 points into Thicker Ice.
But if you are going for a relic cooldown setup to spam it more, then consider spending some points on Chill Out (I think when we activate the freezes are enough so I don’t do this).
Electrode skills levelup order:
- first, 10 points into Increasing Charge
- second, at least 1 point into Fried
- third, 5 points into Brutal Intent (optional and can be done later)
- then, 10 points into Deadlier Bolts
- next, 10 points into Unleashed Energy
- then max out Fried (9 more points)
- spend the last 5 point as you see fit
The Blood Drinker also got buffed with the Echonok Update:
- first, 10 points into Faster Blade
- second, 10 points into Weighted Blade
- third, 5 points into Bloodletter (or do this at a later stage)
- next, 10 points into Open Wound
- next, 10 points into Volatile Blood
- the last 5 points into anything you want. I like having between 1 and 5 points in Blood Spill.
Flaming Destroyer skills levelup order:
- first, 10 points into Destroy Faster
- second, 10 points into Lingering Blaze or Destroy More
- third, 10 points into Lingering Blaze or Destroy More
- next, 10 points into Firestarter
- the last 10 points into Smolder
If you are going for a relic cooldown setup (to spam it more), then consider spending points on the first tier skills (Sharper Blade & Ignition Source)
