Jailer’s Cage Witch Hunter Build (Warhammer: Chaosbane)

Jailer’s Cage

This build is recommended for up to Chaos 8 speed running. It lacks the defensive stats to do Chaos 9 or higher solo reasonably quick. I’ve tested it on C9 and C10 in a 2-3 man team and it works well then. The build uses the Jailer of Sigmar set and utilizes the Heroic Version of Cast Iron (Jurgen’s Trap cooldown skill). The blessings I used were the fully linked Red + Green gems (2 Green 4 Red or 3 Green 3 Red or 4 Green 2 Red) depending on whether one needs more HP or DMG. NOTE: The build requires owning the Witch Hunter DLC, the God Skills DLC & the Tomb Kings DLC (if you decide to use Hero of the Desert). The Season’s Pass includes all DLCs until Tomb Kings (so the Witch Hunter is not included). The pass is also included in the Magnus Edition.

The gear I recommend using is :

  • the Jailer of Sigmar set as armor
  • a Conversion Tools Blade – Traps have a chance to do 250% more dmg to High Health enemies (doesn’t explain what this means – over X% hp or bosses/mini bosses with a big hp pool) & stuns low hp enemies OR Crusader’s Flame when it gets fixed for a synergy with the Icons of Sigmar
  • a Debt of Flame gives us +100% dmg + a stacking 10% per stack DoT boost and -1% cooldown time per Stack for each burning enemy nearby (up to 20 stacks). Also dealing fire damage has a chance to trigger explosions.
  • Any of those 3 Amulets Sacred Fire Medal (to get our cooldowns reduced when it procs), Thrice Blessed Copper Medal (to heal 20% hp when using god skills), or Pure Soul Medal to get 50% dmg bonus to the god skill we use.
  • Signet Ring of Resurgence to give us extra healing and HP. Good choice would also be a Purple Signer Ring or a Signet Ring of Fortification.
  • Old Ring of Resonance – does a bit of dmg +stuns nearby enemies when we use a Cooldown skill. Alternatively, Signet Ring of Null – to helps us get energy and a bit of healing when we crit before we get the Resonance one.

The Skills and Passives I recommend are:

Setup 1: When using the Jailer of Sigmar Set

  • Any basic skill (Pierce, Persecute, Castigate) – I don’t really use it and it costs 0 points
  • Cast Iron (Heroic) – our spammy cooldown skill that is boosted by the set to a “Heroic”.
  • Condemn (Mastered) – Slows and makes enemies take +20% more dmg for 8 sec. Condemned enemies that die restore +5% hp and +5 energy
  • Sacred Sigil (Basic) – places a trap that triggers when enemies approach it to do massive dmg. Enemies hit take +50% more dmg for 6 seconds. Successful attacks against the debuffed enemies restore +3 energy.
  • Extirpate (Mastered) – Our mobility skill that also does dmg and procs icons of Sigmar that also (which indirectly increases our dmg via Inculcation).
  • Martyr (Superior) – it’s a cooldown skill that can grants a bit of dmg reduction as well as proc things like Duelist’s Chain Reaction + the Superior version spawns 4 Icons of Sigmar to increase our dmg indirectly via Inculcation
  • Hunter’s Focus (Mastered) – Give us up to 15% dmg reduction and based on what stance either -20% energy cost but also 20% longer cooldowns (in ranged stance) or +20% energy cost but also 20% faster cooldowns (in melee stance). I use the melee stance for the CDR.
  • Duelist’s Chain Reaction – using a skill with cooldown increases our Crit Dmg by +100% for 6 seconds – stacks up to 3 times for a total of 300% Crit Dmg (3×100%)
  • Padded Armor – Taking a critical hit has a chance to give us dmg reduction (0.6%) that stacks up to 50 times for a total of 30% dmg reduction. The duration is 6 seconds and if we don’t take a crit hit in 6 seconds it goes down to 0 stacks.
  • Hero of the Desert – gives a bit of most stats – dmg, dmg reduction, hp, crit dmg, movement speed, energy, counter attack dmg /consider using Duelist’s Chain Reaction here and reworking the other skills with the extra points/
  • InculcationIcons of Sigmar grant +2 more energy, have extra +20% chance to appear & give us +5% dmg per nearby Icon of Sigmar
  • Sacred Shackles – Physical Damage and the Damage of our Traps is increased if our energy is high (over 50% energy is needed). The dmg bonus is 40%.

Alternative choice:

  • Branding Iron (Superior) – All traps deal extra fire damage – a flat number that becomes higher as our own dmg gets higher

Legendary Ranks

My advice for every builds is: start with Legendary Reinforcement and eventually based on whether you need dmg reduction or dmg start investing into either Legendary Endurance or Legendary Punishment. Eventually, get Legendary Crushing for more dmg reduction if really needed.

The God Skill Tree has two versions. Version 1 is with 40% Cooldown Reduction and uses both God Skill Trees. Version 2 uses only the first God Skill Tree and only has 20% Cooldown Reduction but more DPS stats:

    1. Thanks for the comment! If there’s a specific set on a certain class/hero that you’d love to see a new build for I could add a build for that set higher on the “to do” list.
